Programme Director – Payments Implementation
£1,250 per day outside IR35

We are seeking a high-calibre Programme Director to lead a complex, enterprise-wide Payments Implementation programme for a regulated Financial Services organisation.
This is a mission-critical role overseeing the end-to-end delivery of a modern payments architecture, with particular focus on Stripe integration, operational resilience, compliance and commercial optimisation.
The Mandate
- You will own the strategic design and execution of a large-scale payments transformation, ensuring seamless integration across technology, finance, risk and operations.
- This is not a reporting role. This is a delivery role.
- You will operate at Board and ExCo level while driving hands-on execution across product, engineering, compliance and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead full lifecycle Stripe implementation across multiple products and jurisdictions
- Design and deliver scalable payments infrastructure within a regulated environment
- Manage programme governance, budget control and executive reporting
- Oversee third-party vendors and integration partners
- Ensure FCA and Financial Services regulatory compliance
- Align payments strategy with treasury, reconciliation and finance functions
- Drive operational readiness including chargebacks, fraud controls and settlement processes
- Implement robust controls around PCI DSS and data security
- Manage cross-functional teams across technology, finance and risk
What We’re Looking For
- Proven track record as a Programme Director leading complex payments transformations
- Deep experience implementing Stripe at scale
- Strong background within Financial Services or FinTech
- Experience working in regulated environments
- Ability to bridge executive stakeholders and technical delivery teams
- Strong commercial awareness around payment costs, optimisation and margin
- Gravitas to influence C-suite and Board
Desirable
- Experience across multiple geographies
- Background in embedded finance, marketplace payments or subscription models
- Exposure to treasury integration and ERP connectivity
- This is a high-impact contract for a senior operator who understands both the technical and commercial levers of modern payments infrastructure.
